Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges Les Plateaux 2014 750ml
Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Wine Advocate 90
The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Plateaux comes from 45-year-old vines located just behind the Boisset winery. It has a clean and quite precise bouquet: raspberry and strawberry fruit, hints of marmalade tucked in just behind. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps just a little rustic on the entry, but one can appreciate the freshness and the fineness of the tannin here, with tart red cherry and white pepper intermingling towards the bright and quite vivid finish. This is a very sound, well-crafted village cru that should offer a decade of drinking pleasure.
Character of the wine
Wines under the "Nuits" appellation are the most robust, full-bodied and strong in tannins of all Côtes-de-Nuits wines. They are usually ready to drink about 4 or 5 years after being bottled, and will age perfectly for about ten years. They are full and firm, with a deep intense colour.
Their aromas are rich and complex, suggestive of cherries, blackcurrants, animal pelts and truffles. Their high tannin content provides them with a very firm structure, and the harmonious interplay between the tannins and the inherently rounded nature of these wines makes them full-bodied and solid.
